South Australia is currently facing the threat of becoming a nuclear dumping ground. The state government has not ruled out its proposal to bring international high level nuclear waste despite massive community opposition. Wallerberdina, a cattle station in the Flinders Ranges, situated on Adnyamathanha land, has been earmarked as the preferred site for the national nuclear waste dump, with the recent addition of two sites near the Kimba township on the Eyre Peninsula currently under the government's community consultation process. Nuclear waste dump proposals are not new for South Australia, or indeed Australia. They have been fought tirelessly before, and South Australians will stand united again.

Both the international and national nuclear dumps are illegal in SA under the SA Nuclear Waste Storage (Prohibition) Act 2000. The import, transport, storage and disposal of these nuclear wastes is prohibited: “The Objects of this Act are to protect the health, safety and welfare of the people of South Australia and to protect the environment in which they live by prohibiting the establishment of certain nuclear waste storage facilities in this State”. The No Dump Alliance will actively oppose any move to erode or abolish the Act.
